Passport to Safety is FREE for New Brunswick High School Students

High school marks the time when students are starting their first job or soon to be looking for one. This is also an opportunity to instill within them the knowledge of their basic rights and responsibilities in the workplace and influence the value placed on workplace safety.

Yearly almost 2,000 New Brunswickers aged 15 to 24, report an injury at work and 9 have died since 1998 as a result of a workplace accident. Every opportunity needs to be taken to present youth with an awareness of the importance of workplace safety. The WHSCC wishes to do what they can to help prepare incoming and future workers with the knowledge needed to keep safe and free from injury on the job. For this reason, we have committed the funds for grades 9 to 12 New Brunswick students to access Passport to Safety free of charge.

By means of a national health and safety test via Passport to Safety, we can help ensure that young workers have the knowledge to ask the right questions of their employer and take the proper safety precautions and, in so doing, prevent injuries to themselves and others. This is an amazing start for a whole new generation of safer, smarter workers in New Brunswick.

Passport to Safety is also a natural link with many existing programs and high school curriculum.
