Adding Passport to Safety makes sense in:
Teacher Advisor Program (TAP)
- It's a free activity for all TAP programs.
- It's a good start to Community Service activities.
Career Studies (Grade 10)
- Passport to Safety is free for all students.
- The basics needed to be ready for the Passport to Safety test come from WHMIS lessons required in Grade 9 Science classes, and the rights and responsibilities of workers and employers in the safety lessons in the Career Studies curriculum. The basics on hazards in the test will be familiar to most students from optional courses such as Computer Studies, Technology, Arts, and Music or from job and home experience and other safety presentations they may have attended.
Cooperative Education
- Passport to Safety is a natural fit with Co-op. Use it in class before students leave for their workplace placements. Taking the test is a great way to ensure your students understand their rights and responsibilities in the workplace.
Technical Education
- Health and safety is a major component of the technical education curriculum and is of special interest to OCTE and others. The Passport to Safety test is an opportunity for these students, especially those currently in Grade 11 and 12, to challenge a national safety test and obtain a certificate. It complements and highlights the efforts of teachers in Ontario technical education programs to ensure their students are safe both in the classroom and in the workplace.
A School-wide Activity
- You could cover all Grade 10 students as a special activity. How about getting them their memberships and having a safety week, where they all are all asked to get their Passport to Safety certification during that week.
- You could do the same thing for the whole student body!
